Indoor Double Ironman

Posted: February 10, 2013 in Uncategorized

I received confirmation this week that the planned Indoor Double Ironman that Billy Dyer and I have been thinking about has been given the go ahead. This will entail a 4.8 mile Row, 224 mile cycle and a 52 mile run.

The event will take place on the Bank Holiday weekend of 24/25th August. Location Route 2 Fitness, Devizes. http://route2fitness.co.uk/  Both Billy and I will be raising funds for Wiltshire Air Ambulance, a worthwhile charity.

We are hoping to register the event with Guinness World Records.Watch this space for further updates.

February has been a strange month, I was out cycling last week and got knocked off my bike, fortunately I only came away with whiplash however my racing bike may be a right off as there seems to be a crack in the Carbon. I’m just hoping the insurance company will come good! This has stopped me training temporarily which I’m slightly worried about as White Cliffs 100 is less than 3 weeks away. Some forced rest may do me some good though!

I received a message on Facebook the other day from a friend who I spent time with in the Royal Marines, his Father in Law is planning on putting a team together for the Marathon des Sables, and was I interested in being involved in some capacity. Naturally I said yes, the MDS has always been on my list of things to do, I first remember watching a programme about the event when I was 17 , I was hooked and back then I made a promise to myself that one day I would complete this event. This dream nearly came true in 2005 when I paid my deposit to enter however due to a change in personal circumstances I had to withdraw. I’m really hoping that I will be given the opportunity to take part in this iconic event in the future.

Yesterday I was given a place in the Brighton Marathon on April 14th, I would really like to get closer to the three hour marathon mark but this is not the priority this year so I will be soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying the race.

Onwards and Upwards!

2013 Targets

Posted: January 20, 2013 in Uncategorized

Its taken me a while to workout which challenges I want to test myself against this year, below are the races I will be targetting:

March 2nd – The White Cliffs 100, organised by Saxon Shores Ultra Trails http://ultra-trails.com/white-cliffs-100/ Its a new 100 mile run, I’m keen to support new races and this event took my fancy towards the middle of last year when it was first advertised.

April 26th – 24 mile swim in 24 hours organised by http://2swim4life.com/ This challenge attracted my attention acouple of weeks ago, swimming is my least favourite of things to be doing however the format is different to anything I have done and will provide new training challenges.

July 3rd – Thames Ring 250 mile run. Organised by http://www.tra-uk.org/thames-ring This event has been on my to do list since I found out there was a race longer than the GUCR in the UK.

Sept 27th – Enduroman Lands End to Dover Triple – Organised by http://www.enduroman.com/enduroman-lld/4566108366 p:// This will be the first time a Point to Point Triple Enduroman has taken place in the UK it promises to be a great challenge and Im really excited about this one.

Training has been abit hit and miss the last two months, however I did finish the year off well, albeit having a DNF at The Piece of String Fun Run I was very pleased to have reached 97 miles, it was agreat event, organised by http://www.centurionrunning.com/ I then ran strongly at The Portsmouth Coastal Marathon finishing in a respectable time of 3.12. The next few months will be interesting in terms of training, I will be approaching the races like I always do with a well thought out plan to execute, as with everything I have done, completion is always my main priority anything else is a bonus.
