I actually had to see if this account was still up and running it’s been that long since I’ve blogged.
Over the next few days I will write some very short accounts of what I’ve been up to.
Mersey Roads National 24hr Championships 2015:
Last year the sole focus was to go back and finish the Hill Ultra after my DNF the year before. However in around April / May I had itchy feet and needed something to do, I had always fancied having ago at a 24hr Time Trial however it had never fitted in to other events I had wanted to do, with not much else on I decided to enter the Merseyside Roads National 24hr Championships
I was going to be race number 30 starting at 13.30, each rider started at one minute intervals.
I travelled up on the Friday so that I could have a good rest!
I reastically knew I could do 350 miles, I expected to do 380 so you can understand how ecstatic I was to complete 406 miles. 400 miles is generally considered to be the benchmark to aim for.

There was a fair breeze throughout the day and not overly confident I could concentrate for the duration I opted not to put on a aero wheel on the front and for comfort I wore a normal cycling helmet instead of of going aero both of these I would change if competing again.
Other than one lapse of concentration coming in to have a feed everything else went well with no dedicated support crew I was fortunate to have Marie and kids there who were crewing for Enduroman regular Ted Page helping me out.
Having finished the race I vowed I would come back in a 2016 to have another go. However since we are there now and not having been on my bike this year unfortunately I’m going to have to decline! This race is pretty special, very low key but we’ll organised and supported. Definitely highly recommended.
